Kathy lives in Edmonton and has extensive experience in parish nursing. Her previous acute care background was in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the University of Alberta Hospital/Stollery Children’s Hospital. There her roles included bedside nurse, charge nurse, transport team member, educator and Patient Care Manager. She then worked for 10 years with a Alberta Perinatal Outreach Program where facilitating and teaching for Alberta physicians, nurses and other members of the Health Care team was her primary responsibility. Kathy has lived through some very tough tragedies in her personal life which led her back to her faith and her very first interaction with a Parish Nurse. In the spring of 2007 she attended the CAPNM conference in Edmonton and says that “she found a kind of nursing that allowed me to be me”. She started the PN certificate course at Concordia University in Edmonton in the fall of 2007 and completed it in 2009. During that time, she started a PN pilot position withing her church and was subsequently hired onto their Ministry Leadership Team. She has been involved in Parish Nursing at the local, provincial and national levels ever since. Besides being the VP and Secretary of Parish Nursing Alberta, Kathy has been part of providing education and mentorship for new parish nurses for over a decade. Kathy has agreed to sit on the CAPNM Executive Board for the second time (previous CAPNM co-chair).
